An Open Apology to the Charlotte Golf Community: Our Bad!

Dear Charlotte Golfers,

We owe you an apology. We really thought we had it all figured out when we started inviting golfers to join the ranks of competitive play. We envisioned players stepping onto the tee box, ready to put it all on the line—not just for themselves but for their organizations, their pride, their game. But, wow… we didn’t see this coming.

Apparently, some of y’all are more about the vibe than the grind. Don’t get us wrong—we love a good charity scramble, like our Juneteenth Golf Classic. Who doesn’t enjoy free drinks, great food, mulligans galore, and the freedom to hit one good shot per hole while someone else does the heavy lifting? But when it came time to step into the arena of real competition, let’s just say the excuses started flying faster than tee shots into the woods.

"The format wasn’t fair."

"The price was too high."

"They must be lying about their handicap!"

"Why are we even playing on a Saturday?"

"That's not how we play."

"I can't make it. My wife has my clubs in her car."

We heard it all. Every. Single. Excuse.

To be honest, we thought golfers were hungry for competition—a place to test themselves under pressure, sharpen their skills, and maybe even grow a little as players. We thought the allure of playing for something meaningful would bring out the best in Charlotte’s golfing community.

Were we wrong?

Because right now, it’s looking like most of y’all are content with a friendly $5 Nassau against the same crew you’ve been playing with for years. Talk a little trash, hit the same slice into the same bunker, upgrade your equipment just to shoot the same score—and call it a day.

Listen, there’s nothing wrong with that. Golf is, after all, a game meant to be enjoyed. But for those of you who do see competition as a way to level up, who understand the thrill of grinding through pressure and pushing yourself to get better—we salute you. You’re the ones we built this for.

To the rest, we invite you to join us on Saturday, June 21, 2025 for the 5th Annual Juneteenth Golf Classic. Until then, we’ll be here when you’re ready to trade the free drinks for real stakes. When you’re ready to stop making excuses and start making progress.

As always, keep swinging. And remember: nothing tests your game like a little pressure.

Sincerely,

Greenwood Golf
